Hiking to Everest Base Camp

The best times to trek to Base Camp are October to November and March to May, when the weather is fine. 

Winter is less crowded but requires more preparation for the cold.

Climbing Mount Everest

The climb to the summit takes about 66 days, including time to arrive at base camp, establish camps, and acclimatize to the altitude. The final push to the summit usually happens in late May or early June. The ascent from the highest camp to the summit can take 9 to 18 hours.

Consideration

  • Oxygen: The high altitude reduces oxygen levels, making it harder to breathe. Most climbers use oxygen tanks. 
  • Preparation: Climbing Everest requires months of preparation, support from a mountaineering agency
  • Acclimatization: The acclimatization process cannot be rushed. 
  • Ailments: The body is at risk for ailments like pulmonary edema, cerebral edema, and blood embolisms. Frostbite is also a risk.
